Day 18 ...Paris like a local
The French are crazy about their food, they are even crazier
about the freshness of their food, so this morning we headed out to the twice
weekly Marche Bastille.
Nothing left of the Bastille ... except a market |
Stretching for
several hundred yards the line of stalls carries every imaginable kind of food –
and then some you never imagined. There’s
no way to describe it in words so here, once again are a few thousand words…..
other than amazing, fantastic, fabulous, wonderful, busy, photogenic … enjoy,
we did!
Truffles anyone? |
Once the food shopping is done, there's the flower shopping. No backyards in this part of the world so everyone buys their flowers.
There are some things you get used to seeing – like people with little dogs (with their winter coats) and then ........ there are some things you just can’t unsee!

Look closely - there's a dog in the top basket (and a CD in the back .. cheeky!) |
After a thorough exploration of the markets, we thought we’d
check out a Xmas Market – I asked Mr Google-map and he pointed the way. Out of tourist Paris, we happily wandered
along one of Paris’ broad streets following the blue dots on the map. All the way… to nothing! Not even the hint of a Xmas Market, or
anything that may vaguely resemble one.
So we stopped for a coffee and tested out our capacity as Metro
navigators which we passed with flying colours.
Tonight, we’ll go in search of a proper market, one that
maps, websites etc other than google-maps tells me are really there!
